I’ve been quiet this first half of 2025.
That’s on purpose.
I’ve taken a step back from social media and focused more on “real world” conversations. My definition of “online” versus “real world” is a little squishy. You might get exactly what I’m talking about, or you might raise an eyebrow and disagree. It’s one of those distinctions I know when I see it.
For me, “real world” means direct communication. Actual conversation for its own sake, not optimized for likes and shares. I have a constellation of reasons for this, both simple and complex, which I may get into some other time. The upshot is, I think we need to spend more time on interactions that lack a mass feedback option. No virality, no valuing based on engagement, no anonymity, no piling on.
For me, this has meant spending more time writing my email newsletters and meeting with my writing group. Also, doing something else I love: chatting with other humans on podcasts.
I love podcasts. I won’t say here how many subscriptions I have in my Pocket Casts app because I don’t want to sound too unhinged. Just know it’s north of one hundred. Given this enthusiasm for the format (and, let’s face it, for blathering on about topics that interest me), I will almost always say yes when someone asks me to be a guest on their show. I see it as my way of giving back to the system.
Anyway, I have two podcasts to share this month, one from Kody Hanner at The Homestead Education and one from Emily McDermott at Moms Overcoming Overwhelm. Both touch on parenting with ADHD, sharing a home, and trying to keep it all together. These were fun conversations and I’d be flattered if you gave them a listen. Links are below.
Oh, and I want to post more updates on here, too. Photography, life updates, and other randomness that doesn’t quite fit in my Write Life emails. If you have stuff you’re curious about, please tell me in the comments! If you have no questions but just want to say hi and tell me how you’re doing, feel free to do that, too. I love hearing from people.
